Description
IDS Areamiq is a WooCommerce coverage calculator for products sold by area, pack, bucket, litre, bag, roll or other coverage-based quantities.
It helps customers answer a simple but important question:
How much of this product do I actually need?
A customer enters the required area and IDS Areamiq calculates the appropriate purchase quantity using the coverage configured for that product.
It is suitable for products such as:
- Engineered and solid wood flooring
- Laminate and vinyl flooring
- Adhesives
- Levelling compounds and screeds
- Lacquers, sealers and floor finishes
- Underlay
- Artificial grass
- Wall and floor coverings
- Other products sold using m² or coverage-per-unit calculations
The calculator integrates directly with WooCommerce product configuration, pricing and cart quantity.
Coverage calculation
Configure how much area one pack, bucket, litre, bag, roll or other unit covers.
For example:
- Customer area: 25 m²
- Waste allowance: 5%
- Required area: 26.25 m²
- Coverage per pack: 15 m²
- Quantity required: 2 packs
- Total coverage supplied: 30 m²
IDS Areamiq calculates the purchase quantity automatically and presents the result clearly before the customer adds the product to the cart.
Multiple coverage modes
IDS Areamiq includes several ready-to-use coverage modes for different product types.
Available modes include:
- Pack — suitable for flooring and other products sold in packs
- Bucket — suitable for adhesives and similar products
- Liter — suitable for lacquers, sealers and liquid coatings
- Bag — suitable for screeds, self-levelling compounds and bagged materials
- Roll — suitable for underlay and other roll-based products
Each mode uses the same core coverage engine while allowing the product to be presented in a way that matches how it is actually sold.
This makes IDS Areamiq useful across different material categories without requiring a separate calculator for each product type.
Purchase methods
Products can be configured around different purchase workflows.
For supported configurations, customers can enter the required area in m² and IDS Areamiq calculates the quantity of packs, buckets, litres, bags, rolls or other configured units required.
The selected purchase method works together with the product coverage value, pricing settings and waste allowance.
Pricing per m²
Products can be priced using a price-per-square-metre workflow.
IDS Areamiq can calculate the corresponding pack or unit price from:
- Coverage per unit
- Regular price per m²
- Sale price per m²
This allows the storefront to communicate pricing in the way customers expect while WooCommerce continues to work with the correct purchasable quantity.
Waste allowance
Configure a default waste percentage for products where cuts, fitting or installation loss must be considered.
Customers can see the adjusted required area and, where enabled, control whether the waste allowance should be included.
Clear calculator results
The result can show:
- Required packs or units
- Total supplied coverage
- Area including waste
- Total estimated price
- Price per m²
The calculated purchase quantity is passed through to WooCommerce when the product is added to the cart.
Product-level configuration
Calculator settings are managed directly from the WooCommerce product editor.
Configuration includes options such as:
- Enable or disable the calculator
- Coverage mode: Pack, Bucket, Liter, Bag or Roll
- Coverage per unit
- Purchase method
- Pricing model
- Regular and sale price per m²
- Unit name
- Container size
- Reference thickness
- Waste percentage
- Minimum quantity
This keeps product-specific coverage data alongside the WooCommerce product itself.
Sharing
Customers can share a calculator estimate using the available sharing controls.
The sharing feature can be enabled or disabled from IDS Areamiq settings.
Shop-loop coverage information
An optional shop-loop badge can display useful coverage information before a customer opens the product page.
This can help customers compare suitable products while browsing WooCommerce product archives.
Feature controls
The IDS Areamiq settings screen lets administrators enable or disable individual features.
Current feature controls include:
- Share buttons
- Shop loop badge
- Price in calculator result
- Embed widget
Disabled features are removed from the storefront output rather than simply being hidden visually.
CSV import and export
IDS Areamiq includes CSV tools for managing calculator-enabled products in bulk.
You can:
- Export calculator configuration
- Include products without the calculator enabled when required
- Use the export as a backup before bulk editing
- Update calculator configuration in a spreadsheet
- Import the structured CSV back into WooCommerce
Existing products are matched using product data such as product ID and SKU.
Unknown products are reported rather than automatically created.
Embed widget
The calculator can also be embedded on approved external websites.
The embed tools allow you to:
- Enable or disable external embeds
- Generate code for a specific product
- Create product-less utility calculator embeds where enabled
- Configure width and height
- Copy generated iframe code
- Preview the calculator before publishing
- Restrict embeds to approved domains
- Control branding, price display and product links
- Choose a light or dark embed theme where available
The calculator runs inside an iframe to isolate its interface from the host website.
System status
A dedicated System Status screen provides diagnostic information including:
- Plugin version
- WordPress version
- WooCommerce version
- PHP version
- Currency
- Feature status
- Calculator-enabled product count
- Relevant environment information
This is useful when troubleshooting configuration or preparing a support request.
