The Pressable Automated Migration plugin makes migrating sites to the Pressable platform effortless. Whether you are a developer with tons of experience moving sites or have never moved a site before, this plugin does all the hard work so that you don’t have to. Move as many sites as you need, quickly and with minimal interaction.

Instructions

Before Starting Your Migration

Before migrating your site to Pressable, you’ll need to have a few things already established:

An active account with Pressable.
A site deployed on our system where you will be migrating your site to.
A site that is ready to be moved to the Pressable platform.

Obtain Migration Setting Information

Login to https://my.pressable.com and open up the settings page for the site you would like to migrate. Click on the “Migrate Site” tab and find the settings for the automated migration plugin near the top.

You’ll need the settings from here to complete the next steps in the migration process.

Install the Automated Migration Plugin

Login to the site that you will be moving to the Pressable platform (the source site) and navigate to Plugins > Add New. In the plugin search box, search for “Pressable Automated Migration”. When the plugin listing comes up, click on Install and then Activate.

Navigate to the plugin settings page and insert the details that you obtained from the “Migrate” tab inside of https://my.pressable.com.

Migrate the Site

Click on the “Migrate” button and you will see the BlogVault migration page come up. BlogVault will move the site to Pressable servers and provide live updates on the status of the migration. The amount of time a site takes to migrate will vary based on the size of your site.

You will receive an email upon completion of the migration and your migrated site is now visible at the site’s staging URL.

After Migration

After your migration is complete, please review the site to ensure everything was migrated properly. If necessary, you can remigrate the site one last time using the plugin to synchronize any changes that have been made to your live site since the initial migration.

Once you’ve reviewed the site for correctness, you are ready to send your site live

I have to say, I’ve always been more of a DIY person, and I prefer normally to migrate sites manually so I can control each piece. But when I was forced to leave my old hosting company and move to Pressable, I was a bit worried because I knew how intense that was going to be. I was told about the built in migration process at Pressable and the plugin here, and while I was a bit wary, I tried it. The user experience was super clear from start to finish and if I did have any questions (which I did on a couple), I was able to get my question answered from Pressable support within only a couple minutes and was able to quickly complete the migration. I’m literally migrating sites as I type and just got the notification that it is ready to finalize at Pressable, but I was seeing that this only had 9 reviews and I thought that was ridiculous because it’s an amazing plugin. I know people mostly leave reviews when they’re frustrated, so that’s likely why there aren’t more reviews, but seriously, I’ve been working with Wordpress for over 10 years and have tried pretty much every hosting company and tried and used hundreds of plugins. I was a little worried about managed wordpress hosting, but after seeing the perks and boosts, and redundancies, protections, addons, etc that are just built into Pressable sites, I was willing to walk away from my normal workflow (which included root access to WHM/cPanel). After 8 years at my previous host, I’m moving to Pressable, not because of how good they are, but because of how awesome their support and team is. The amazing performance and hardware is just a perk. Anyway, getting side tracked, but seriously…great plugin, and thanks for making my life easier!FEEDBACK: My only feedback would be that the screen where you enter the Destination Site URL and SFTP details show the Site URL you are migrating from. The reason is because if I’m migrating multiple sites at once, I hvae to have multiple migration tabs open, and when entering these details, it’s going to be very important to enter them correctly, so having the origin domain displayed somewhere near the top would make it easier to make sure we’re entering the data from pressable onto the correct SFTP migration page. Of course this is only an issue when migrating multiple sites at once. It’s not an issue if you’re just migrating 1. But I had to migrate 200, so I had to get creative with my tab organization in chrome. But having the site origin URL/name showing in that page would be a huge help! Not a deal breaker, but a nice-to-have. Ben J | Wodobo

I moved across to Pressable (Wordpress A++++ Hosting) about a year ago and have never looked back. Outstanding service value and now with this little gem of plugin migrations are as simple as Copy-Paste x 3 + CLICK! Grab a coffee and by the time you’re finished, so is your site migration. Kudos to team Pressable.

The Plugin offers an easy way to migrate a WordPress site to Pressable. Notice that all existing users will get overwritten. Means after migrating the Pressable Contributors have no Site User anymore. Means you have to recreate them in the WordPress admin page or remove and re invite them over the Pressable Panel.
