Install using the WordPress built-in Plugin installer, or Extract the zip file and drop the contents in the wp-content/plugins/ directory of your WordPress installation. 2. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress. 3. All done, you now have the _Automatic Translator with Google Translate_ installed for free. #### Set up This plugin works out of the box and does not need any configuration. But, if you want to manually define the language to translate from and select the options that appear to the visitors on the _Translate Button_ you can do that on the **Automatic Translator** section ## FAQ ### How much does this plugin cost? Nothing, it is for **free**. Yes, this is a free translator plugin for WordPress. ### How will the visitors see my website in their languages? When a visitor opens your website they will see a translation dropdown menu in the top left corner with the offered languages. ### Do I need any translation skills to use this plugin? No, this plugin does all the translation work for you. So you don’t need to know any of the languages your website will be translated into. Also, you don’t need to hire a translator. ### I only need my website translated into one language, I don’t want all those 104 languages. No problem, you can configure this plugin to only offer the language/s that you want. ### Will my posts and pages be duplicated for every new language? No, the translation happens on the fly whenever a visitor selects a language. ### How can I prevent specific brand names or sections from being translated? Use Google’s `notranslate` class on wrappers you want to keep unchanged, for example: UnlockThePicture. ### Does this plugin translate text within images? No, any text that is part of an image will not be translated. This plugin only translates text. ### Can I combine this plugin with Polylang for mixed manual and automatic translations? This plugin can coexist with Polylang, but it does not manage mixed manual/automatic multilingual routing. Use Polylang for canonical language URLs/content management and treat Automatic Translator as client-side translation on top. ### Does uninstall remove plugin settings? By default, plugin settings are preserved. I’d say that this is probably the fastest and most performant translator plugin in the directory, and that’s what makes it special. It’s modern, it feels really nice to use with gutenberg. Unlike all the other plugins out there. For the Pro version my wish is the following: 1. Make it so we can create custom urls from an automatic translation 2. Make it simple on how to index these results on google 3. Make it simple, simple, simple. Please don’t add bloat or to much complexity. It could be great with some changes. ===PROS=== 1. It’s free. 2. Simple to set up and use. 3. Auto translates your website. ===CONS=== 1. It only uses Google’s standard free translation service which is imperfect. When I translated a paragraph from English to French the result contained four changes in meaning from the original text. Multiply this over 100’s of paragraphs and it becomes a problem. 2. It does not take advantage of the neural machine translation( NMT) services now being offered by Google and Microsoft. This is next gen and is claimed to be near perfect to human translation. Both Google and Microsoft have free accounts for text translation using NMT with an API key, so the plugin would need to allow users to enter an API key. It is worth mentioning a bit about the NMT offerings by Google and Microsoft. Both have free offerings but require the user to have an account (to get an API key). ATM Google offers a $300 credit with up to 500,000 characters translation per month. The Microsoft offering is better IMO. It is called Auzure Translator and offers 2,000,000 characters translation per month at no cost. That’s between 30,000 and 50,000 words each month!
